STAFF INTERVIEW

What is the most valuable lesson learned during your time here?
The most valuable lesson I have learned here is the importance of the learning process. In the workplace, we are constantly faced with unfamiliar tasks and new challenges, and the ability to learn quickly and effectively determines whether you can solve problems and achieve success. Learning itself is an ongoing journey of challenge and growth. Therefore, the most valuable takeaway is not the specific knowledge we have acquired, but rather the ability to face the unknown with adaptability.

Achieving valuable results is not just about the outcome—it is the process that truly matters. Whether it is solving problems or acquiring new skills, every challenge and failure we have experienced along the way ultimately becomes part of our experience. These experiences unconsciously shape our thinking patterns, helping us make more informed decisions when encountering more complex issues in the future. Over time, these experiences become our ability.

We are all on a journey from beginner to expert. When we first start learning a new skill, it can seem incredibly challenging. Yet, with constant refinement and adjustment, we can eventually master it. However, learning is not just about personal growth. Once we reach a certain level of proficiency, the next step is figuring out how to pass on those skills and experiences to others. This can enhance the team efficiency and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

A strong dedication to learning is important. When we are curious and actively seek out answers, the door to learning is wide open. With this mindset, we can acquire any skill we set our minds to. This also applies to specific tasks at work and challenges in our everyday lives.

My time here at PRORIL has reinforced the idea that learning is a lifelong journey: encountering problems, finding solutions, gaining experience, and passing that knowledge on to others. This is what I believe to be the most valuable lesson I have learned, and it is also one of the most precious takeaways from my career.

Is there a project you are particularly proud of?
There was one project that made me so proud of. Despite my background as a product engineer, I always believe that every achievement starts from scratch. It is a process of building something from nothing, and there is no such thing as instant perfection. In fact, I think it’s unlikely for anything to ever be perfect.

My philosophy is what I refer to as the “60% philosophy”. Getting a project to 60% completion, to a point where it is functional, is a critical milestone. Once we achieve that milestone, we can involve more people and resources to continue to optimize it. To me, the most important thing is to get a basic, workable version out there so that we can all collaborate to refine and enhance it step by step.

I remember the time when I was in charge of developing our company’s internal information system. Initially, we outsourced the work, but we soon encountered numerous challenges. The biggest challenge was system integration and the inability to control the source code. The difficulty of maintaining and improving the system left us heavily reliant on external developers.  After visiting several factories and learning from industry best practices, we decided to bring the project in-house. This resolved the integration issues and ensured that the company could maintain full control over the technology in the future, which is crucial for long-term operations.

At the time, the biggest challenge for me was that I knew nothing about programming. I knew what we needed, but I struggled to translate those needs into reality. This forced me to learn how to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, enabling me to understand the logic of software development and to simplify complex requirements into actionable technical specifications.

After a year of dedication, we successfully completed the development of our internal system, which includes modules for testing, searching, warehousing, and accounting. While the system is still not perfect and requires ongoing optimization and user feedback, we have made significant progress. The most important takeaway was the valuable experience and the technical skills we internalized through the project.

This project was a true team effort, and it also marked a personal breakthrough for me. I learned C#, .NET Core, MVC architecture, and MSSQL. I even developed a testing report system independently. This experience gave me a completely new perspective on software development. The journey from nothing to something has been incredibly rewarding and stands as one of the most fulfilling experiences in my career.

How do you balance your work and life?
At PRORIL, I find that I have managed to strike a pretty good balance between work and life. Unlike the fast-paced tech industry, our work environment is much more relaxed. This gives me ample time and space to enjoy my personal life. For me, work is not everything; it is more like a means to make life fulfilling since we need money to support our life, but this does not mean I am obsessed with work. I prefer a balanced approach where work is not the only focus, while I also recognize that too much free time can often lead to spending more.

Although I am not obsessed with my job, I am still willing to invest time and effort in achieving meaningful results. For instance, to improve my skills, I will sacrifice my vacation time to take private lessons. As these skills provided by private lessons are personal assets that no one can take away. They also create greater value for me. In this sense, the boundaries between work and life are not so clear, but I strive for a balanced approach. I am committed to my work when necessary, and I make time for personal pursuits.

My ideal is to use up all my vacation leave each year, giving myself a break to do whatever I want. Even doing something as simple as scrolling through my phone at a café allows me to relax. This is what I expect from life—not constantly overwhelmed by goals or pressure, but simply just enjoying the moment.

In my free time, I really enjoy watching professional baseball and basketball games. When there is a game, I make it my priority and plan trips and food experiences around it. This makes my time off both soothing and exciting. This lifestyle fills me with energy and passion, and I encourage everyone to find your interests and activities you truly enjoy. This is the best way to unwind outside of work.

Besides traveling, I also enjoy cooking. I often watch cooking tutorials on YouTube and try to cook by myself. This process is very satisfying, especially when I share my homemade dishes with my family. The sense of accomplishment is incredible. Of course, there are times when things do not turn out as expected, but these failures make the process even more interesting. I think cooking is like life, full of exploration and surprises. Why don’t you share your experiences with me?
